(GS) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to gathering and disseminating information about gender issues and women's rights both in the Czech Republic and around the world. GS's goals are to promote an understanding and tolerance of lifestyles that do not follow traditional patterns, to create a forum for discussion of social status and behavior of men and women in society, and to circulate information abroad concerning gender issues in the Czech Republic. GS library operates an extensive collection of books, periodicals and multimedia. In addition, the organization coordinates various public debates and lectures dedicated to gender related issues. The organization has two directors: Michaela Marksova-Tominova, Director for PR, and Alena Kralikova, Director for Education. Nevertheless, all decision-making is done upon discussion with project coordinators and consultation with the Board of Trustees and other consultative bodies. All project ideas are developed in the whole team of Gender Studies, although each of us partly focuses on specific topics within gender issues. As to the reach of the organization: although, the seat and the office is located in Prague, we have developed contacts around the whole country - with individual contacts with a number of different organisations/institutions (public authorities, NGOs. labour offices etc.) and within a network of women's organizations called Association for Equal Opportunities.
